Sewer

Santaquin City would like to remind our residents that the City's responsibility for its sewer collection system begins at the sewer main. Sewer laterals are the responsibility of the residents. In addition, the responsibility of the City's Culinary and Secondary Water System extends to and including the Water Meter. Water Laterals extending from the meters are the responsibility of the residents.

Santaquin City uses a Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR) treatment in a Water Reclamation Facility for their sewer treatment. This facility is state-of-the-art and the first one built in the state of Utah. In an MBR, water flows into large tanks, which are continuously being pumped with oxygen for the bugs. Rather than allow the bugs to clean all the water, large membrane filters are put in the tanks to suck the water out. The water is then exposed to ultra-violet light to clean out any leftover germs. The result is Type I water which is discharged into the city irrigation system. The entire treatment process is inside buildings with air scrubbers to reduce odor. This facility is located to the north of town and is an approximately 30,000 sq feet building.
