May 2022 Volunteer of the Month - Kenneth Coon

Kenneth Coon

Ken Coon is our May 2022 Volunteer of the Month. Ken is a huge believer in being a volunteer and encourages friends, family, and coworkers about how easy it is to help others for even a few hours a week. His volunteer work started in 2007 after he had a scare where he needed to receive fifteen units of blood in three days. After he recovered, he decided to give back by delivering blood for the Red Cross. He drives from Midvale, Utah, across the state line into Idaho, every-other-weekend with donated blood. Later he decided to start helping at the Loveland Living Planet Aquarium. He apparently loves the ocean, so his volunteer work there is as much for his own enjoyment as it is to help the aquarium. According to his wife Karen, “He always tells our kids to find something you love and help!” Ken has also been delivering for Meals-On-Wheels once a week for almost four years. When he started driving for them, there was not a need here in Santaquin for a driver, so once a week Ken and Karen would deliver meals in Provo. They were very happy to learn last month that there was an opening in Santaquin for meal delivery. Their date nights include Ken’s Meals-On-Wheels run and getting a soda together.

Ken absolutely loves our hometown of Santaquin. Him, his wife Karen, and their three children have lived here for almost ten years. He works for OptumCare as a Contract Matter Expert. He was born in Montana, raised in Colorado, then ended up in Utah in 1993. When he’s not volunteering or working, he enjoys being at home watching a good sci-fi movie.

A big thank you to Ken for his wonderful volunteer work, and for encouraging others to do the same.
