2 week update - March 27, 2020

Santaquin City is doing their part to support social distancing during this COVID-19 threat and is following the lead of State and Federal leaders. We know this is extremely difficult as individuals both youth and adult, are anxious to participate again in our many programs. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work thru this together. Here is our programs update:

Sports
*Youth and Adult Sports are currently postponed. We will re-evaluate every two weeks starting again April 13th.
*We are posting online challenges and fitness tips on our Santaquin Recreation Facebook page.
*Summer programs including t-ball have current online registration availability. In the case that any programs are cancelled we would credit or refund all applicant fees.
*If you have questions please call our Recreation Office at 801-754-5805.

Home Based Easter Egg Hunt 2020
*In lieu of the traditional Easter Egg Hunt we would like to assist families with a Home Based Easter Egg Hunt experience.  Please come, drive by, and let us give you a bag of eggs (one per family), to do a hunt at your home. Make sure to look inside the eggs for prize slips when doing your hunt.  Thank you to our  wonderful sponsors!

New! Spring Unplugged Challenge!
*Santaquin Recreation is pleased to announce this new opportunity for youth to also focus on exercise while they are home utilizing online services for daily schoolwork. The “unplugged challenge” will help youth balance screen time while being motivated to earn GREAT prizes. Type of activities will be specific to each individual and family. Geared for youth ages 5-18, parents initial/sign off as youth start with level 1 and work towards level 2 and then level 3. The program will run April 1 thru May 15 so participants will have plenty of time to accomplish the challenge.
*Once completed, parents take a picture and submit form to the Recreation Office, select from the prize categories, and then arrange for a time to pick up the prizes.
*Downloadable tracking sheets and examples of prizes will be posted on the Santaquin City website April 1, 2020.

Recreation Youth & Adult Classes
*No classes are being held in person, but some are offered online. City staff/instructors will be communicating specifically with Martial Arts, Krav Maga and Tumbling registered participants.
*Some adult fitness classes are cancelled. High Fitness and Zumba will begin offering free online classes starting in April.

Santaquin Senior Center

*The Senior Center weekly lunches and programs are currently cancelled until further notice.
*Senior residents have the option of joining the daily statewide “Meals on Wheels” lunch program.
*Director Judy Robbins and staff are communicating weekly with our community Seniors.  For questions or Senior needs please call 801-360-1698.

Santaquin Library
*The Library is closed to the public. However, a curb side pick-up/drop-off is available Mondays-Fridays 1:00-6:00pm and Saturdays 10:00- 1:45pm. Additionally, the Library has many great opportunities for online book checkout as well. Watch for more information on our Library Facebook page. Call us at 801-754-3030

Santaquin Chieftain Museum
*The Museum is currently closed. Watch for more information on our Museum Facebook page.

Santaquin City Parks
*City Parks are open to public use. We recommend people visit our parks, go for a walk, play with your children in a responsible social distancing way. Park restrooms remain closed. Park pavilion rentals will not be accepted in the month of April helping us stick to the restrictions of “groups staying under 10 people”.

UBBA (BASEBALL):  Youth Baseball is for 3rd-8th grades. Participants are required to attend player evaluations on March 28 (may change due to inclement weather, check email that week for times). Teams are drafted, will not guarantee any requests. State tournament will be played for those that qualify. Registration numbers will be limited to number of coaches that qualify, register early! Registration: 3/2 - until full ($55-$70), Umpire Applications will open 3/2 - 3/29.

UGSA (SOFTBALL): Youth Softball is for 3rd-9th grades. Participants are required to attend player evaluations on March 28 (may change due to inclement weather, check email that week for times). COACH PITCH: Coach Pitch is for 1st/2nd graders. Leagues are not co-ed. We do not allow children to play up, they need to register for the current grade they are in. Team hat included. Reversible jersey required: $13 (If your child doesn't already have a Santaquin Recreation reversible jersey, please add one on while registering.) Registration numbers will be limited to number of coaches that qualify, register early! Registration: 3/2 until full ($42).

CO-ED T-BALL (PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN): Youth Co-Ed T-Ball is for Preschool age kids (entering Kindergarten fall of 2020) and kids currently in Kindergarten (2 separate leagues). Team hat included. Reversible jersey required: $13 (If your child doesn't already have a Santaquin Recreation reversible jersey, please add one on while registering.) Coaches Applications will open 2/3 - 3/21 Spread the word!! Registration numbers will be limited to number of coaches that qualify, register early! Registration: 3/30 until full ($32). 

INTERNATIONAL SOCCER CAMP: Santaquin Recreation is thrilled to be offering the all new Challenger International Soccer Camp which will offer programs for each age & ability level June 15-19 at the Harvest View Sports Complex. Register at www.challengersports.com 30 days or more before camp and you will also qualify to receive one of our great looking International Jerseys!

YOUTH URBAN FISHING CLASS: Registration will be 3/9-5/17 or until full. Register online today! Ages 8-13. Held once a week for 6 weeks on Tues or Weds night from 6-8pm. There will be a half hour of instruction plus 1.5 hours of fishing. Classes will start on Tues 6/2 or Wed 6/3. Fee is $30 and includes a t-shirt. Fishing tackle will be provided but each participant is required to provide their own fishing pole.  Classes will be held at the Santaquin Fishing Pond at the mouth of Pole Canyon. Volunteers needed. DWR Background check is required. Volunteer hours count toward the dedicated hunter program! Contact bmecham@santaquin.org to volunteer.

GROUP FITNESS CLASSES:  Cost is $2.50 to drop in, $25 for a 10-punch pass with the 11th class FREE or $20 for an unlimited month pass!

Childcare is available for classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. The cost is $2.00 for the first child and $1.00 for additional siblings! Maximum of 16 kids in childcare area. Reserve their spot online HERE. May be cancelled without notice if we have low participation numbers. Childcare may also be added if there is a need, so please call 801-754-5805 and let us know! STUNTS FOR BEGINNERS:   These monthly stunt classes cover the basics of what students need to know in order to perform on stage and in film. Ages 12 +. Saturdays from 12-1 PM. $60 per month. Our classes will cover a variety of skills including, safety in training, basic Jiu Jitsu & many more fighting styles, foot falls, high falls, stair falls, acting the action, rolling, wire pulls, cardio endurance, partner acrobatics, on-set etiquette, camera and audience angle and choreographing the fight. KRAVE MAGA SELF DEFENSE: Want to learn how to protect you and your loved ones while also getting an amazing workout? Come try our Krav Maga program for two weeks free. Those who sign up before 1/31 receive a free pair of MMA gloves for training. Want to train with friends and family? Sing up with a friend and both receive half off your first full month. Ages 13+, $80 per month, T, Th, F & Sat. 

UTAH VALLEY MARTIAL ARTS:
  
Based on the style of Youn Wha Tae kwon do. Students will be trained both mentally and physically to advance in rank as well as in character and ability.  Students will learn the techniques that are key to self-defense and the defense of those around you.  As you advance through the system, you will have the opportunity to participate in class leadership, weapons training, and more. MOMMY & ME - MOVEMENT & MORE: A fun class for toddlers ages 18 mos. – 3 yrs. and a parent! Classes include creative movement and dance, songs and more! The 8 week winter session will start 1/8 and be held on Wed. mornings at 10:30 am. Register online!

NEW! KRAFTY KIDS:
Join us for this fun creative class! Children ages 7-12 can participate in weekly classes to do a different craft or creative project that is provided! Classes will start in January. Register Online!

LITTLE MISS ORCHARD DAYS PAGEANT: Registrations will be February 1-24 ($40) or until full. Pageant will tentatively be held June 6. Every Princess learns a performance, participates in a service project and has a lot of fun! T-shirt included. Contestants will need to have evening wear (anything from a simple dress to an elegant dress) for the pageant. Last year's Queens are not eligible to compete this year. All contestants must be the designated age as of June 1st, 2020. For questions about the pageant, please contact the Little Miss Orchard Days pageant director, Cori: littlemissorcharddays@gmail.com.

ORCHARD DAYS CAR SHOW: New categories will be added this year and winter is a great time to work on these new projects! Soap box derby cars, modified go-cart/lawn mowers and other similar categories. Entries will be $5, registrations will begin 2/1. For questions or other information, contact Car Show Chairman, Waylon Pruitt at 435-494-5878.

MISS SANTAQUIN SCHOLARSHIP PAGEANT TICKETS:
This year’s pageant will be held on March 21st in the Payson High School auditorium at 7pm. Purchase your tickets online for $7 or day of for $8. Doors will open at 6pm for those who have purchased pre-sale tickets! All others can enter starting at 6:30pm. Entrances will be located on the East and South sides of the building at the center doors. For questions about the pageant, please contact the Keela Goudy at 801-83-6811or santaquinpageant@gmail.com.

RODEO QUEEN CONTEST: The Orchard Days Rodeo Queen and Buck-A-Roo Queen Contests will be held on March 30th at the Elk Ridge Arena on Goosenest Drive. Registration begins at 5:30pm, judging at 6:00pm. Ages 8-21. Call Paige at 801-592-7829 for more information.

VENDORS: We will start accepting registrations for this year’s Orchard Days Celebration on April 1st! This year’s celebration will be July 25 – August 1. Spots fill quickly! Online registration available.

EASTER EGG HUNT: Saturday, April 11th at Centennial Park, 100 S. 300 W. at 9am sharp! Volunteers needed to spread eggs that morning and donations are now being accepted, call the Recreation Office for more info.


Coaching News

RECREATION SHAKE UP!  We are changing the way we do things in our youth sports and can’t wait to spread the word! We will be finding coaches before registering kids! Our goal will be to provide training and additional support to our coaches before they start! No previous experience required.
